Six neighbors will open their beautiful homes to the public for the 2016 Woodland Heights Home Tour, “Reinventing for Today,” April 16 and 17 from 1 to 6 p.m. Our first home tour in five years, this is traditionally the biggest fundraiser for the neighborhood. The tour features historic homes that have been revitalized and refreshed for modern living while preserving the charm of the past.
Tour weekend kicks off with a preview party, "Premiere Night on Byrne: Boas & Beads," and a sneak peek at the featured homes, Friday, April 15. Tour the homes without waiting in line from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with wine and cheese served at each stop. Next up is a 1920s Hollywood-themed extravaganza at Janeen Cook’s original William Wilson home, 530 Byrne. Tickets are $100 online by April 13 or $125 at the door (space permitting), and home tour preview tickets are good all weekend. Space is limited so get your tickets early! Special thanks to Hogg Middle School art students for the Hollywood decorations. Attendees are encouraged to wear their glam vintage duds for photo ops in front of this classic 1932 Cadillac.
The home tour committee still needs volunteers to serve as docents and cashiers tour weekend. Docents guide visitors through the homes, working from provided talking points, and cashiers work the ticket booth at Woodland Park. 1020 Bayland: 1920 bungalow revamped and expanded in 2015, preserving original front façade, front rooms and porch.
418 Byrne: Circa 1915 Craftsman brick bungalow expanded through the years, with complete update in 1996 and second story addition in 2014.
101 Parkview: Early-century Four Square with new addition, converted attic and preserved interior design features.
950 Redan: 1920 one-story duplex converted and expanded to single residence.
734 Usener: 2-1 bungalow updated in 2014 with pre-existing back porch addition converted to office and half bath.
